Lutes Sweep NWC Weekly Awards

HILLSBORO, Ore. - The Pacific Lutheran University men's track & field program turned in a strong performance at the PLU Open on Saturday and on Tuesday swept the Northwest Conference Awards with Hezekiah Goodwin winning NWC Track Athlete of the Week and Corey Solomon collecting NWC Field Athlete of the Week.
 
Goodwin won NWC Track Athlete of the Week after winning the 800-meters on Saturday. The senior bested the 32-competitor field, clocking a time of one minute, 56.23 seconds, a mark that ranks as the fourth fastest time in D3 during the outdoor season. Goodwin was additionally third in the 3,000-meter steeplechase, clocking a time of 9:32.21 and capped off the meet by finishing fifth as a member of the Lutes' 4x400-meter relay team. 
 
Solomon secures NWC Field Athlete of the Week after crushing the field in the pole vault at the PLU Open. Solomon cleared a season-best height of 15 feet, one inch to win the event, a vault that ranks fourth in D3 this outdoor season. Solomon's mark was almost two feet better than the next competitor in a field that included vaulters from D2, D3, and the junior college ranks. 
 
The Lutes are back in action on Saturday, making the short trip north to Seattle for the Doris Heritage Track Festival.
