Gaston Gains NWC Defender of the Week Accolades

HILLSBORO, Ore. — Pacific Lutheran University goalkeeper Nicholas Gaston tallied a pair of road shutouts over the weekend and on Monday was rewarded as the Northwest Conference Defensive Player of the Week.

The Mililani, Hawaii native claims the honor after collecting a pair of clean sheets and extending his shutout streak to 232 consecutive minutes. Gaston made three saves in Saturday's 3-0 victory over George Fox University before netting three more stops in Sunday's 4-0 decision over Pacific University.

Gaston's two clean sheets moved him into sole possession of second place on the all-time shutouts list with 22 in his decorated career. The goalkeeper additionally sits second on the all-time saves list with 254 over his five years on campus.

This is the second time this fall Gaston has been recognized by the conference, earning NWC Defensive Player of the Week on Sept. 16. It additionally marks the third time this season a Lute has won a conference award with Trevor Thompson securing NWC Offensive Player of the Week on Sept. 16.

PLU (6-1-3, 4-0-2 NWC) boasts a three-game winning streak and is unbeaten in its last nine matches. The Lutes put that on the line on Saturday, hosting in-state rival Whitman College at East Field with kickoff set for 12 p.m.
