Seven Lutes Named All-NWC

HILLSBORO, Ore. — The eight-time Northwest Conference Champion Pacific Lutheran University women's soccer team has plenty to celebrate with seven student-athletes earning All-Conference honors on Friday while the Lutes also won three of the four major postseason awards.

Hannah Cecil was named the NWC Offensive Player of the Year for the second consecutive year while Bella Hanna makes it five straight years a Lute has won NWC Defensive Player of the Year. Head Coach Seth Spidahl was named NWC Coach of the Year, securing the award for the second straight year and the sixth time as PLU's head coach.

Cecil and Hanna were two of six Lutes to earn First Team All-Conference honors. Joining the duo was Abby Winkler, Kayden Hulquist, Lily Dose, and Julia Causbie. Also being honored was Katelyn McDougal who was named Second Team All-Conference. 

Hannah Cecil wins NWC Offensive Player of the Year for the second straight season and is the fifth time a Lute has won the honor since 2016. The 2021 NWC Rookie of the Year earns First Team All-League for the third consecutive year. The forward for Bothell, Washington played all 22 games this fall, leading the team in goals (13), points (29), and game-winning goals (six). 

Bella Hanna earns NWC Defensive Player of the Year, keeping the award in Luteville for the fifth straight season. Hanna is a First Team All-Conference selection for the first time in her career after earning Honorable Mention honors as a first-year in 2022 at Linfield University. The defender from Lakewood, Washington logged 1,922 minutes this fall, starting all 22 games and playing all 90 minutes in but eight games. Hanna helped the team allow just 16 goals all season and post 10 shutouts. The junior was additionally a threat in the attacking third with eight hoals and one assist, including five game-winning goals.

Kayden Hulquist secures First Team All-NWC after landing Honorable Mention honors last fall. The defender from Boise, Idaho was a big part of a stout defensive unit that earned shutouts in 10 of the 22 games this fall, allowing just 16 goals in 22 games. Hulquist added some juice on the offensive end with two goals and three assists during the 2024 campaign. 
 
Lily Dose is named First Team All-Conference for the third straight season. A four-time All-Conference selection, the Shelton, Washington native was a Second Team pick as a first-year in 2021. The midfielder started every game over the last four seasons and had one goal and five assists during the 2024 campaign for the Lutes. 
 
Abby Winkler secures First Team All-NWC this fall after earning Second Team accolades last season. The Portland native played in goal for 1,971 of the 1,980 minutes played this fall, rocking a 0.73 goals against average with 74 saves. Winkler earned a clean sheet in 10 of the 22 games this fall, including nine of the 16 conference games.

Julia Causbie lands First Team All-League for the second year in a row and is All-Conference for the fourth consecutive season after earning Second Team honors in 2021 and 2022. The Edmonds, Washington native led the team in assists with 11 while ranking second on the team in points (21), and third in goals (five).

Katelyn McDougal rounds out the Lute award winners, landing Second Team All-Conference. The Wilsonville, Oregon native started all 22 games and was part of a defensive unit that allowed just 16 goals all season.  McDougal played all 90 minutes in 14 of PLU's 22 games this fall and had two assists on the year. 

The Lutes finished the season with a 16-2-4 overall record and a 14-0-2 mark in conference action. PLU defeated Maryville College 1-0 in the opening round of the NCAA Division III Tournament before falling 1-0 to Emory University in the second round.
