OLYMPIA, Wash. --- The Pacific Lutheran University Men's Golf team competed in their first event of the Spring 2024 season in a dual match against Saint Martin's University at Olympia Country Club as the Saints finished on top with team score of 279 (-5) over the Lutes who fired a 300 (+16).
Â
The Lutes were led by sophomore
Koen Solis who shot a one-over 72 on Saturday. The Saints were led by Nick Ennis who fired a six-under 65.
Â
Freshman
Tanner Frinell followed close behind with a two-over 73.
Hunter Olson began his season with a 77 (+6). Rounding out the team score for the Lutes was freshman
Marcus Otto with a 78 (+7).
Luke Butler saw his first bit of action in the second semester of his freshman year as he finished with an 88.
"This was really good test for us early on this season. Considering we just started practice this week I was really pleased with Koen and Tanner's rounds." Said Head Coach
Tyler Copp following the Saturday rounds. "They didn't have their best stuff but they stayed in it mentally and made some putts when we really needed it. This was a testament to the work those two put in this winter. For us to get a competition in this early in our season against a D2 team with aspirations of making regionals was great for our group."
Â
The Lutes will look ahead to March 3
rd where they will compete in a head-to-head dual against cross-town rival Puget Sound at Oakbrook Golf Club.
