Men's Golf Runner-Up at UPS Invite

LAKEWOOD, Wash. -- Four Lutes dotted the Top 10, including Jack Brigham placing second overall as the Pacific Lutheran University men's golf team finished runner-up at the Puget Sound Invitational on Sunday at the Oakbrook Golf Club.

Brigham led the way, shooting a 36-hole tally of 142, finishing one under par and one stroke behind medalist Henry Mills from Bellevue College. Brigham had 10 pars and six birdies in round one, turning in a four-under 67 before shooting a 75 on Sunday's second round, netting 14 pars and one birdie.

Soren Bostrom tied for fourth overall, shooting a 147. Bostrom opened with a 72 on Saturday with 12 pars and three birdies while shooting a 75 in round two with 10 pars and two birdies. Tanner Frinell was one stroke back in seventh with a 148, shooting 74s both days. Competing as an individual, Tyler Maag was one stroke back in ninth with a 149 (74-75). Luke Butler snuck into the top 10 with a 150, placing ninth overall after shooting 75s both days.

Luke Pendergraft was 22nd with a 160 (80-80) while Aiden Aoki was 28th with a 166 (84-82).

"I guess it's a little disappointing, we we're hoping for a win this week and we were right there going into the day but we just didn't quite have it," said Head Coach Al Patterson.

"But we had some good individual performances. Certainly happy with Jack's total although I'm positive that he wanted the win. He's a great player and I'm sure he will get it one of these days. Soren was again solid this tournament and Tanner, Tyler, and Luke all played great we just didn't get the score we needed for victory. We're going to build on this and look forward to Walla Walla in a couple of weeks."

PLU finished with a team score of 599, finishing 12 strokes of team champion Bellevue. The Lutes were four strokes back after shooting a 295 during round one before carding a 304 on Sunday. PLU finished ahead of Northwest Conference rivals Whitman College and University of Puget Sound, holding a 20 stroke edge on the Blues and a 22 stroke lead on host University of Puget Sound.

The Lutes are back in action on Oct. 25-26, closing out the fall season in Walla Walla, Washington at the Confluence Classic.
