Raubenolt Leads Lutes in Spokane Opener

SPOKANE, Wash. — Grant Raubenolt shot a 66 on Sunday and was one of two Lutes to finish inside the top 10 as the Pacific Lutheran University men's golf squad finished the season-opening Whitworth Invitational fourth overall.

Raubenolt carded a 139 over the two round event at Indiana Canyon Golf Course, snagging fifth overall with the three-under par effort. The junior sat atop the leaderboard after shooting a 66 on Sunday, a round that included 11 pars, four birdies, and an eagle on hole two. Raubenolt had 11 pars and three birdies the following day to log the top five finish. 

Soren Bostrom was four strokes back, tying for 10th overall with a 143. Bostrom carded a 68 on Sunday before finishing with a 75 on Monday. The junior had 24 pars over the 36 holes in addition to four birdies and an eagle on hole 18 on Sunday.

Jack Brigham made his collegiate debut in style, tying for 18th overall. The first-year shot a 145 for the event, carding a 74 on Sunday before carving off three strokes on Monday with a round of 71. 
 
Tanner Frinell tied for 28th with a 148 (74-74) while Geo Pirrie (72-77), and Aiden Aoki (74-75) tied for 32nd overall. Aoki was the Lutes' top finisher on the PLU B team that competed at the event with Luke Pendergraft one stroke back in 40th with a 150 (74-76). 

Tyler Maag (77-75) and Luke Butler (76-77) rounded out the Lute competitors, placing 46th and 49th, respectively. 
 
Whitman College hoisted the team title, winning the 11-team event with a score of 556 (276-280). Pacific Lutheran was second overall after day one and finished the tournament fourth with a score of 573. The Lutes shot a 280 as a team during round one and carded a 293 on Monday, owning a three-stroke edge on host and in-state rival Whitworth University. The PLU B team was 11th, shooting a 604 (301-303). 
 
Whitman's Grady Brown won medalist honors, shooting a 135 (68-67) to enjoy a two stroke lead on the rest of the field. 

PLU takes next week off before hosting the PLU Invitational on Sept. 28-29 at The Home Course in DuPont, Washington.
