FEDERAL WAY, Wash. - All four relay teams turned in season best times as the Pacific Lutheran University men's and women's swimming teams opened up the 2024 Northwest Conference Championships on Thursday night inside the King County Aquatics Center. The Lute women finished runner-up in the 200-yard medley relay and sit fourth overall in the team standings with the Lute men sitting fifth overall.
"It was a very fun night tonight at the NWC Championships," said
Andrew Lum.
"It's always an exhilarating experience to kickoff our championships with relays. The Lutes performed very well in the pool but more importantly, they really showed up with their deck presence. We look forward to a killer next three days in Federal Way."
The Lute women's 200-yard medley relay team came a split second short of winning the conference title with
Annika Eisele,
Makenzie Chan-Orcutt,
Jessica Ordaz, and
Sidney Chan-Orcutt clocking a time of one minute, 48.06 seconds to finish just 0.14 seconds back of event champion Linfield University (1:47.92).
Ordaz and
Sidney Chan-Orcutt were back in the pool with
Riley Maher and
Emma Gassman, bagging a fifth place showing in the 800-yard freestyle relay. The quartet stopped the clock in 7:55.65 finishing a split second behind Whitworth University.
The PLU men opened the meet with a season best time in the 200-yard medley relay with
Na'inoa Loo,
Tyler Tanaka,
Khosbayar Amgalan, and
Devin Stanley finishing fifth overall in 1:36.22. That same lineup was back in action for the 800-yard freestyle relay, clocking a time of 7:08.41 to finish sixth overall.
PLU's women's squad sits fourth overall in the team standings with 62 points after two events, sitting two points out of second place. Linfield reigns atop the standings with 80 points after winning both relays while University of Puget Sound and Whitman College are tied for second with 64 points.
On the men's side the Lutes are fifth overall with 54 points. Whitworth sits atop the standings with 74 points followed by Puget Sound (70) and Linfield (64).
