Women's Soccer: The eight-time defending Northwest Conference Champion Lutes (6-2-4, 6-0-2 NWC) are in a familiar spot at the halfway point of the season, sitting atop the conference standings after a pair of road wins.
Liv Olson has scored the game-winning goal in the last three straight games for PLU, and scored all three goals over the weekend against the Whits. Olson struck in the third and 70th minutes in Saturday's 2-1 win over Whitman College while netting the lone goal in the 77th minute in a 1-0 victory over Whitworth University.
Olson was tabbed the NWC Offensive Player of the Week on Monday while goalkeeper
Abby Winkler was the NWC Defensive Player of the Week for the second time this fall after racking up a shutout and 11 saves.
Football: The Lutes (3-2, 2-0 NWC) sit in a four-way tie for first place in the NWC standings after earning a big 41-27 victory over crosstown nemesis University of Puget Sound, securing The Trophy for the fifth straight year.
Jacob Schuh stole the show in the 101st meeting between crosstown rivals, scoring three touchdowns and shattering a school single game rushing mark with 327 yards. Schuh averaged an incredible 9.1 yards per carry and was named the NWC Offensive Player of the Week on Monday and to the D3football.com Team of the Week on Tuesday.
PLU's defense made the Loggers one dimensional, limiting the hosts to -17 yards rushing and getting interceptions from both
JJ Miles and
Will Frank.
Men's Golf: Pacific Lutheran finished fourth overall at the NWC Fall Classic on Monday at Oswego Lake Country Club with a pair of Lutes finishing inside the top 10.
Soren Bostrom continued to have a great fall, shooting a 146 to finish tied for fifth. Bostrom was dialed in during Sunday's opening round, carding a 69 before shooting a 77 during Monday's final round.
Tanner Frinell was one stroke back in seventh with a 147 (74-73).
PLU shot a 594 as a team, finishing one stroke behind third place Linfield University.
Men's Swimming: Tyler Tanaka and
Matt Jones both won three events on Thursday in an unscored exhibition dual meet at the PLU Pool against University of La Verne.
The duo combined with two members of the women's team to win the 200-yard medley relay to start the meet. Tanaka later won both the 150-yard butterfly in 1:29.38 and the 50-yard butterfly in 24.63. Jones made his Lute debut in style, winning individual events in the 50-yard breaststroke (27.61) and the 150-yard breaststroke (1:38.81).
Women's Swimming: Emma Gassman won three events while
Harper Canessa won two in a big season opening performance for the Lutes in Thursday's home exhibition with La Verne.
Gassman was on the winning mixed 200-yard medley relay team while also netting individual wins in the 150-yard butterfly (1:42.77) and the 150-yard backstroke (1:40.32). Canessa was clutch in her collegiate debut, winning the 50-yard breaststroke (31.77) and the 150-yard breaststroke (1:49.53).
Men's Soccer: The Lutes (6-3-3, 5-0-3 NWC) unbeaten run was extended to nine games over the weekend, after salvaging a pair of ties in eastern Washington.
Gio Aguilar-Gutierrez had 10 saves while
Misha Turchaninov scored in the 14th minute in Saturday's 1-1 draw with NWC leading Whitman. The following day it was
Landon Sexton scoring in the 23rd minute in a 1-1 stalemate with Whitworth.
Aguilar-Gutierrez had 15 saves over the weekend and on Monday was tapped as the NWC Defensive Player of the Week for the second time this fall.
Volleyball: The Lutes (7-8, 5-3 NWC) look to snap a two-match slide as they head into the second half of the conference season. PLU dropped a pair of matches last week in eastern Washington, falling 3-0 to Whitworth last Friday and 3-0 to Whitman the following afternoon.
Libero
Macy Matsushima ranks second in NWC in digs, averaging 4.5 per set while setter
Ayre Takamoto ranks third in the league in assists with 8.1 per set.
Women's Golf: Emily Alicea led the Lutes at the NWC Fall Classic, finishing 15th overall. Alicea shot a 170 over the two days at Oswego Lake CC, carding an 86 in Sunday's opening round and an 84 on Monday.
Kate Sabarillo placed 30th with a 182 (94-88) while
Kathleen Pullin was 36th (103-97-200).
Women's Cross Country: Pacific Lutheran races in its final regular season race on Saturday at the George Oja Invitational. The Lutes last laced up the spikes on Oct. 4, finishing sixth at the Whitman Open.
Sal Mattivi was the star of the day for the Lutes, placing 21st and ninth among D3 racers after covering the 6,000-meter layout in Walla Walla in 24 minutes, 12.93 seconds.
Maddie Mitchell was the second Lute finisher, placing 29th overall on a day that five PLu runners bagged personal bests.
Men's Cross Country: The Lutes are back in action this weekend, having last raced on Oct. 4 at the Whitman Open in Walla Walla, Washington.
Noah Friedrich paced PLU at the meet, finishing 60th overall after touring the 8,000-meter course in 27:49.9.
PLU finished eighth in the team standings against a strong field that included two Division I teams and squads from Division III, the NAIA, and junior college ranks.
Women's Rowing: The Lutes fall opener was put on hold for a few weeks after last Sunday's American Lake Fall Classic was canceled due to high winds.
Luckily for PLU, the squad still has two more chances this fall to compete. The Lutes will race at the Head of the Lake up in Seattle on Nov. 2 and close the fall slate six days later at the PLU Fall Fixture on American Lake.
Pacific Lutheran looks to use the fall to break in its novice rowers and get in longer race distance work for a returning crew that finished eighth at the 2025 NCAA Division III Championships in June.
