HILLSBORO, Ore. — Abby Winkler has cemented herself as one of the best goalkeepers in Pacific Lutheran University history and on Monday was named the Northwest Conference Defensive Player of the Week for the fourth time this fall.
The Portland, Oregon native made 10 saves over the weekend, helping the Lutes (12-2-6, 12-0-4 NWC) collect a pair of shutouts and clinch a share of the program's ninth straight NWC title.
Â
Winkler made seven stops in a 1-0 victory over Whitworth University on Saturday before making three saves in 70 minutes of work in the 3-0 senior day victory over Whitman College. Winkler finished off the game with a rare appearance as a field player, capping her incredible career with 30 shutouts including 11 this fall.
Over the final 13 games of the season, Winkler allowed just two goals while yielding just seven total over the 20 game slate.Â
Â
This is the second straight week Winkler has won the honor while also winning it on Oct. 13 and Sept. 8. She is one of three Lutes to land Player of the Week this fall, joining offensive playersÂ
Kiana Gutierrez (Sept. 22) andÂ
Liv Olson (Oct. 13).
