Setting the Scene: The Pacific Lutheran University volleyball team heads to Boston for the NCAA Division III Championships after winning the Northwest Conference Tournament title for the second time in three years. Back in Luteville, men's and women's basketball will both play inside Olson Gymnasium while the swimming teams will close out the semester at the Bruin Invitational in Oregon.

Lutes in Japan: This weekend's Bruin Invitational will be without women's swimming sophomore
Matthea Gaines who will be representing the United States this week at the Deaflympics in Tokyo, Japan. Gaines will be swimming in multiple events from Wednesday all the way through next Monday.Â

Volleyball: The Lutes (16-9) muscled their way into the NCAA Tournament over the weekend, knocking off NWC Co-Champions University of Puget Sound (3-2) and Whitworth University (3-1) to capture the program's second tournament title in three years and qualify for the national tournament for the 14th time in program history.
PLU trailed 2-1 on Friday night against the second-seeded Loggers before winning set four 25-17 and sealing the match with a 15-12 victory.
Alexis Eggert played a huge role in that run, finishing with 19 kills.Â
On Saturday, the Lutes unseated host Whitworth behind a 14-kill, 11-dig night from
Je T'aime Paio. PLU has now won nine of its last 10 matches but faces a Engineer team on Thursday that is ranked No. 9 in the most recent AVCA Poll and has a 19-match winning streak.Â
Football: Jacob Schuh ran for 285 yards and scored three touchdowns on the ground and threw for another in the Lutes' 55-21 thrashing of George Fox University in the season finale.Â
Pacific Lutheran (6-4, 5-2 NWC) racked up 616 yards of total offense, averaging 10.3 yards per play. Most of that damage was on the ground. Finishing with six rushing touchdowns from three different players.

The Lutes finish the season in sole possession of third place in the NWC standings and close the year on a two-game winning streak.Â

Schuh was honored twice this week, securing NWC Offensive Player of the Week on Monday and landing a spot on the D3football.com Team of the Week on Tuesday.Â
Men's Swimming: PLU (4-0) remained perfect in the dual meet season, securing a pair of home wins at the expense of Willamette University and Linfield University. The Lutes skated past the Bearcats 123-102 before edging Linfield 109-92 the following day.
PLU won eight events against Willamette, including
Tyler Tanaka winning three events. The Lute veteran topped the field in the 100-yard butterfly in 53.72 seconds and took the 200-yard freestyle n 1:51.27 while also participating in the winning 400-yard medley relay.Â
On Saturday it was
Vyron Domingo winning a trio of events, helping the 200-yard medley relay to a win while securing individual wins in the 400-yard individual medley (4:20.55) and 100-yard backstroke (52.62).Â

Women's Swimming: The Lutes (4-0) tallied a pair of home victories over the weekend, besting Willamette 128-112 on Friday before collecting a 114-90 victory against Linfield on Saturday morning.Â

PLU won seven events against the Bearcats with
Julia Lorenzo and
Kei Nishikawa both securing a pair of events wins. Against Linfield, the Lutes swept the relays and had a pair of individual wins from
Kei Nishikawa in the 200-yard freestyle and the 100-yard butterfly.Â

The Lutes close out this semester's competitive schedule this weekend at the Bruin Invitational and will resume competing in early January with more dual meets.Â
Men's Basketball: Pacific Lutheran (1-2) overcame a sluggish start to blow past Pomona-Pitzer Colleges 72-58 on Friday night in the home opener inside Olson Gymnasium.
PLU closed the first half on a 23-6 run, turning a two-point deficit into a 15-point cushion. The Lutes held at least a seven-point buffer the entire second half en route to the win.
Charlie Kapranos headlined the day, scoring a career-high 29 points while hauling in 11 rebounds for his first career double-double. The sophomore was recognized by the conference office on Monday, earning NWC Player of the Week for the first time in his career.
Women's Cross Country: Battling torrential rains, the Lutes capped off their season with an 18th place finish at the NCAA Division III West Region Championships held in Claremont, California on the campus of Pomona-Pitzer Colleges.
Sal Mattivi was the top Lute finishers, crossing the finish line in 84th place after touring the flooded 6,000-meter course in 24:44.4. Sisters
Jessalyn Robles and
Mariel Robles were the next two Lute finishers, placing back-to-back within a split second of each other in times of 25:32.2 and 25:32.8.

As a team, PLU scored 485 points, finishing one point shy of 17th place University of Redlands while placing 48 points ahead of 19th place University of La Verne.Â
Men's Cross Country: Third Team All-NWC selection
Kai Sorensen led the Lutes in southern California at the West Region Championships, covering the 8,000-meter course in 26:41.0 to place 45th overall. Sorensen was just 10 spots shy of earning All-West Region honors.Â
Noah Friedrich was the next Lute runner, placing 77th overall.
As a team, the Lutes finished 20th overall scoring 503 points. PLU placed two points shy of rival Pacific University and enjoyed a 176-point gap on 21st place Whittier College.Â

Women's Soccer: The nine-time NWC Champion Lutes (12-2-6, 12-0-4) had a half dozen student-athletes recognized on Wednesday, earning All-Conference honors.

Katelyn McDougal,
Liv Olson, and
Kiana Gutierrez led the way, all securing First Team All-NWC honors while
Bella Hanna was named Second Team All-League and
Olivia Boehm was a Third Team selection.
PLU finished off the season on a 16-game unbeaten run and posted 13 shutouts over the 16-game conference slate.

Men's Soccer: Pacific Lutheran (13-4-3, 12-1-3 NWC) had nine players secure All-League laurels on Tuesday, including six securing First Team honors.
Landon Sexton,
Alvin Kamau,
Connor O'Brien,
Alex Coope,
Owen Bliskis, and
Yuta Shimazu led the way as First Team selections while Gio Agular Gutierrez and
Ty Brunner landed Second Team status.
Misha Turchaninov rounded out the Lute award winners, securing Third Team status.Â

Women's Basketball: The Lutes (0-3) are back on the hardwood this weekend, opening their home slate on Friday evening after opening the season two weekends ago in southern California.
Pacific Lutheran has had a different leading scorer in each of the first three games this season.
Sydney Reisner and transfer
Ghadir Ramadan led the Lutes in the opener against Whittier College while
Kylie Griffin had a career day leading the Lutes against University of Redlands.
Kate Wooten led the Lutes in their So Cal finale against Chapman University.Â
