PORTLAND, Ore. — The Pacific Lutheran University women's track & field squad received a pair of third place finishes from
Madison Downey and
Ki Neir in the field events, headlining day one of the 2025 Northwest Conference Championships hosted by Lewis & Clark College.
Madison Downey muscled her way onto the podium, finishing third in the long jump with a personal best leap of 17 feet, nine 3/4 inches. Downey had punched a ticket to the finals with a jump of 16' 5 1/4" before uncorking the personal best jump on her fifth attempt of the day.
Ki Neir had her best performance of the season, vaulting 11' 1" to secure third place in the pole vault. Neir needed just five attempts to clear the opening four heights before soaring over 11' 1" on her third attempt. Downey was ninth in the same event with a clearance of 10' 1 1/4".
Two Lutes qualified for the finals of the 100-meter hurdles with
Addisen Hering finishing second in her heat and owning the fourth fastest qualifying effort in 15.11.
Abi Caprye joins Hering in the finals, snagging the eighth and final spot with a personal best time of 16.01. Hering later qualified for the finals in the 400-meter hurdles, clocking a personal record time of 1:06.90, a time that was the second fastest in her heat and the seventh best time on the day.
"Madison showed her ability to rise to the occasion in championship meets and Ki showed up in the moment. Addy and Abi ran strong prelims as well," said Head Coach
Trey Henderson.
D'Yhana Clemons was 10th in the 100-meters, sprinting down the straightaway in 13.06.
The evening saw the hammer throw and javelin throw get contested off site at Pacific University in Forest Grove where the Lutes had three top eight finishers in the hammer.
Eva Wirth led the way, placing third with a toss of 149' 2".
Sandra Valmonte was sixth with a throw of 140' 2" while
Katy Cook was seventh with a mark of 137' 6". Cook additionally finished 10th in the javelin with a thorw of 107' 6".
"It's a big day tomorrow to end the championships but proud of how we showed up today."
The Lutes are back in action tomorrow for the second and final day of the 2025 NWC Championships.
