TACOMA, Wash. — Zoe Smithson has been on fire at the plate this spring and the rest of the nation has taken notice with the Pacific Lutheran University softball player among the 10 student-athletes from Region X to earn a spot on the National Fastpitch Coaches Association's Player and Pitcher of the Year Watch List on Thursday.
The Port Angeles, Washington native is one of four Northwest Conference players on the list from Region X. The NWC Hitter of the Week on March 8, Smithson ranks second in all of NCAA Division III in RBIs per game (1.83), while sitting seventh nationally in slugging percentage (1.063) and total bases (68), ninth in RBIs (33), and 13th in batting average (0.578). Smithson owns a 13-game hitting streak and has finished with multiple hits in 13 of PLU's 18 games this spring.
Smithson and the Lutes (12-6, 2-4 NWC) are back on the diamond on Saturday, facing Willamette University in Salem, Oregon.Â
