Alicea Leads Lutes at Spring Classic

WALLA WALLA, Wash. — Emily Alicea led the charge for the Pacific Lutheran University women's golf team on Monday, helping the Lutes finish seventh overall at the 2025 Northwest Conference Spring Classic at Wine Valley Golf Club.
 
The Lutes shot a 692 as a team, finishing seventh overall and enjoying an 18-stroke advantage on eighth place Linfield University. George Fox University seized the team title with a 587 (292-295) with host Whitman College a distant second with a score of 620 (309-311). Pacific University (316-315) and Whitworth University (312-322) round out the top four teams. 

Alicea was PLU's top finisher after carding a two-round tally of 163 to finish 19th overall. Alicea shot an 83 during Sunday's opening round before shaving off three strokes on Monday with a round of 80.
 
Abby Matelski was three strokes back in 24th with a 166, shooting an 84 during the opening round before doing two strokes better on Monday with an 82.
 
Ashley Nguyen carded a 170 (84-86) to place 29th while Kathleen Pullin shot a 193 (94-99) to place 38th.

The NWC Spring Classic is one of three major tournaments used to determine the final conference standings. PLU finished fourth at the NWC Fall Classic. The remaining tournament— the NWC Championships— is set for April 20-21 in McMinnville, Oregon.
 
The Lutes are back in action on Saturday at the SPSCC Invitational at Tumwater Valley Golf Course.
