Setting the Scene: The Pacific Lutheran University women's lacrosse team continues its season opening homestand on Friday while the baseball squad makes a return to Portland, opening Northwest Conference play with a three-game series against Lewis & Clark College.

Baseball: The Lutes (2-3) tallied its first wins of the season on Saturday, rocking host Lewis & Clark 18-5 and 7-4.
PLU poured on four runs in the fourth inning and nine in the sixth in the series opener with
Ethan Keintz and
Rochne Beecham both going three-for-five with four RBIs.
Game two was the
Asa Reese show, belting two home runs, including a three-run shot in the eighth inning to break open a 4-4 tie.
Chris Moreno was lights out in 3 2/3 innings of long relief, striking out three and earning the win.Â

Reese was tabbed the NWC Hitter of the Week on Monday, finishing the series four-for-nine with five RBIs and four runs scored.Â
Women's Lacrosse: PLU (0-1) opened up its second season as a varsity program on Friday night, falling victim to a late scoring spree by the visitors in an 8-5 setback to Southwestern University.

Issabella Marchio and
Kathleen Swankowski both scored a pair of goals with Marchio's second of the night tying the contest at 5-5 with 10:27 remaining in the game.Â

Southwestern scored the eventual game winner with 6:04 to go, in a game goalkeeper
Kassie Diller made 12 saves, boasting an impressive .600 save percentage.
Men's Golf: Pacific Lutheran teed off the spring season on Monday and Tuesday, mixing it up against a field of Division II and Division III at the Crusader Cup in Irving, Texas.

The Lutes finished eighth as a team among the 13-team field, shooting a two-round tally of 659 amidst windy conditions at the Hackberry Creek Country Club.

Soren Bostrom led the way, placing 20th with a score of 164 (79-85).
Koen Solis was 23rd (165) while
Tanner Frinell and
Tyler Maag tied for 24th (166).Â

The Lutes take the rest of the month off and are back swinging the clubs on March 14 at the Willamette Valley Cup in Salem, Oregon.Â

Women's Basketball: The Lutes erased an early deficit to slip past Whitworth University 65-59 on Friday but was unable to reclaim that magic on Saturday for Senior Day, falling 92-60 to Whitman College.

The Lutes (3-22, 2-14 NWC) trailed by as many as 12 against the Pirates on Friday night but clamped down on the visitors in the second half, scoring 12 straight points and limiting Whitworth to shooting just 17.1 percent from the floor in the second half. Four Lutes finished in double figures with
Ghadir Ramadan posting a double double with 12 points and 13 rebounds.

PLU was unable to dig out of an early hole the following day against the Blues, with
Sydney Reisner closing her storied career with 16 points while fellow senior
Emi Wada had eight points and four assists. The duo of Reisner and Wada played in a combined 191 games over the past four seasons.Â

Men's Basketball: Pacific Lutheran closed out the season last weekend, falling 76-63 to NWC Champion Whitworth before coming up short 79-70 against Whitman the following evening.Â

Ben Tellez scored 22 points and the Lutes outscored the Pirates 39-37 in the second half but it wasn't enough to dig out of an early hole after turning a four-point gap into a 15-point spread over the final six minutes of the first half.

On Saturday a
Mack Hepper three put the Lutes up two with 16:52 remaining but a technical foul gave the Blues a spark, scoring 12 straight to seize the lead.Â
Tellez wrapped up his career with a 20 point effort, closing the year by scoring at least 19 points in each of the final 11 games of the season.Â

Women's Rowing: The Lutes are just a little over a week away from opening up the spring season when they host the PLU Invitational. It's the first of two regattas held on American Lake.

Softball: Pacific Lutheran is idle this weekend but will be shipping down to Georgia the first weekend in March to play six games in Columbus at the NFCA Leadoff Classic.

Track & Field: The Lutes will begin the outdoor season on March 7, racing at the University of Puget Sound's Ed Boitano Invitational.
The Lutes wrapped up the indoor season with several big performances with
Kyleigh Archer closing indoor with the top triple jump mark in the West Region (36 feet, 9 ¾ inches).
Bridger Hanis ranks third in the region in the high jump (6' 4 ¾") while
Hunter Kleindl (14' 9") and
Ki Neir (11' 5 ¾") both rank fourth in the region in the pole vault.Â
