WALLA WALLA - Pacific Lutheran saw its season record fall to 0-4
when it lost a pair of 9-0 Northwest Conference women's tennis
matches to Whitworth and Whitman on a weekend trip east of the
mountains.
On Friday afternoon, defending conference champion Whitworth
dispatched the Lutes in quick fashion. The Pirates lost only
four doubles games, the closest coming at No. 2 where Mya Towne and
Erica Bosman held off Heidi Weston and Kristina Aarsvold, 8-3.
Cora Wigen battled Alli Marshall at No. 2 singles
before falling, 6-3, 7-6 (3). Other than that singles match,
the host Pirates dropped only seven games in five singles matches.
Less than 24 hours later the Lutes found themselves battling
Whitman in Walla Walla. The Missionaries improved their season and
conference records to 2-0 with the sweep of the Lutes.
Pacific Lutheran's Ashley Coats and Wigen battled to a
tie-breaker at No. 1 doubles before dropping a 9-8 (3) decision to
Hadley DeBree and Divneet Kaur.
At No. 2 doubles, Emily Rolston and Alyssa
Roberg bested Weston and Aarsvold by a score of 8-4. Kate
Kunkel-Patterson and Charlotte Scott posted an 8-4
victory at No. 3 doubles, downing Ali Burnside and Caitlyn Hoerr.
Roberg, playing the first singles match of her college career,
slipped past Coats at No. 1 by scores of 6-0, 6-2. DeBree got
past Burnside 6-2, 6-3 at No. 2, and Kaur scored a 6-2, 6-1 victory
over Aarsvold at No. 3.
The decisions in the remaining singles matches were close.

scores for a 7-5, 6-3 win over Krista Fredricks at No.
6. Kunkel-Patterson was the winner at No. 5 singles,
outpointing Hoerr, 6-1, 6-4.
