TACOMA - Pacific Lutheran put up a fight but remained winless
this season when it fell to visiting Willamette, 6-3, in a
Northwest Conference women's tennis match played Friday night at
the UPS Tennis Pavilion.
The Bearcats won the top three singles matches to improve
to 5-1 overall, 5-1 in the NWC, while the Lutes fell to 0-7
overall, 0-6 in the NWC.
The Lutes picked up a point in doubles when Ashley Coats and
Cora Wigen took an 8-5 victory, but Willamette notched the other
two points. In singles play, PLU's Kristina Aarsvold led 3-0 at No.
4 when her opponent retired from the match. Caitlyn Hoerr defeated
Emily Bee from Willamette at No. 6 singles, 6-2, 6-4.
Natalia Agarycheva led Willamette by winning No. 1 singles
over Ashley Coats, 6-0, 6-2. Alyssa Morrison won No. 2 singles in a
lengthy battle with PLU's Cora Wigen. After Morrison and Wigen
split the first two sets, Morrison won in a super-tiebreaker, 6-4,
2-6, 1-0 (10-2). Fabi Dieguez defeated Ali Burnside at No. 3
singles, 6-1, 6-4.
Willamette won two of the doubles matches to build a 2-1 edge
over the Lutes. Dieguez and Morrison were victors at No. 2 doubles,
while Jamie Slonaker and Bee took the point at No. 3 doubles.
