TACOMA - Whitworth improved its Northwest Conference women's
tennis record to 10-0 on Saturday by swatting aside Pacific
Lutheran, 9-0, at the UPS Tennis Pavilion.
The Pirates (10-2 overall), ranked No. 6 in the West Region of
Division III women's tennis, lost only four games in doubles and
just nine in the six singles matches.
Rachel Burns and Alli Marshall, ranked No. 14 in the West
Region, beat Ashley Coats and Cora Wigen, 8-1, at No. 1 doubles.
Other doubles winners for the Pirates were Mya Towne and Erica
Bosman at No. 2 and Katie Staudinger and Stephanie Reardon at No.
3.
Burns, ranked No. 17 in West Region singles, took a 6-0, 6-2 win
from Coats. Other winners from two through six were Marshall,
Bosman, Staudinger, Megan Wingfield and Siri Carlson. Marshall,
Bosman, Wingfield and Carlson each lost just one game in their
singles matches.
Pacific Lutheran, now 2-10 overall and 2-9 in the Northwest
Conference, returns to action next Friday when it hosts the
University of Idaho at 3:30 p.m. on the PLU courts.
