PARKLAND - Pacific Lutheran picked up a pair of singles wins and
had several close battles in doubles before dropping a 7-2
non-conference women's tennis match to the visiting College of
Idaho Coyotes on Friday afternoon at the PLU courts.
The PLU wins came from Ashley Coats, who defeated Kate
Leadbetter in a super tiebreaker, 3-6, 6-3, 1-0 (10-7) at No. 1
singles, and from Deanna Ellmer, who got the better of
Molly Leadbetter, 6-1, 6-4, at No. 5 singles. The Lutes came close
in one other singles match as Caitlyn Hoerr battled Teresa Kucera
to three sets before dropping a 2-6, 6-3, 6-4 decision at No. 6.
All three doubles matches were close, particularly at No. 1
where Kim Clemento and Kate Leadbetter took a 9-8 (7-5) victory
over Heidi Weston and Tina Aarsvold. At No. 2 doubles, Melissa Rowe
and Molly Leadbetter tripped Coats and Hoerr, 8-5, while Haley
Hutchings and Kucera topped Ali Burnside and Ellmer, 8-6, at No. 3.
The win was the first in three matches for College of Idaho this
season while the Lutes fell to 2-11 with the defeat.
