PARKLAND, Wash. - Linfield closed out its Northwest Conference
women's tennis slate with a 9-0 victory over the host Pacific
Lutheran Lutes on Saturday afternoon at the PLU outdoor courts.
The Wildcats improved their overall record to 15-4 and their
conference mark to 14-2 with the victory, while PLU falls to 3-14
overall and 3-12 in the NWC.
Playing without one of its top players in Sallie Katter,
Linfield nonetheless had little trouble with the Lutes. Abby
Olbrich and Katter are ranked No. 7 in Division III West Region
women's doubles, but today Olbrich joined up with Kiana Nip to take
an 8-5 win over Ashley Coats and Cora Wigen at No. 1 doubles. Sarah
Click and Sarah Watanabe beat Ali Burnside and Tina Aarsvold at No.
2 and Sophie Larson and Kirstie Franceschina topped Deanna Ellmer
and Caitlyn Hoerr at No. 3 doubles, both by 8-1 tallies.
Olbrich showed why she is ranked No. 1 in West Region
singles with a 6-1, 6-0 victory over Coats at No. 1. Other Linfield
singles winners were Larson over Wigen 6-1, 6-2 at No. 2, Click
over Burnside 6-0, 6-0 at No. 3, Nip over Aarsvold 6-2, 6-0 at No.
4, Watanabe over Ellmer 6-3, 6-0 at No. 5 and Franceschina
over Hoerr 6-1, 6-1 at No. 6.
While Linfield has qualified for the Northwest Conference
postseason tournament scheduled for April 16-17 in Yakima, the
Lutes will close out their season tomorrow when they play the
Puget Sound Loggers at the UPS Tennis Pavilion starting at 11 a.m.
