TACOMA - Leah Newell won in singles and doubles, but Pacific Lutheran came up short in Northwest Conference women's tennis action on Saturday, losing 7-2 to host Puget Sound at the UPS Tennis Pavilion.

Newell teamed with Tina Aarsvold for an 8-3 win over Maddie Thiesse and Maddison Holtz at No. 1 doubles, and Newell beat Holtz, 4-6, 6-3, 1-0 (10-4), at No. 1 singles.

Aarsvold battled Thiesse to three sets at No. 2 singles before falling 2-6, 6-0, 7-5.

The Lutes (2-8 0-8 NWC) return to action at noon Sunday when they play at Linfield.
