Boxers Sweep Aside PLU in Women's Tennis

FOREST GROVE – Pacific wrapped up the 2012 regular season just as it began on Friday afternoon with a 9-0 sweep of Pacific Lutheran in Northwest Conference women's tennis action at the Holce Tennis Courts.

The Boxers pulled through a series of three closely contested doubles matches to take the early 3-0 lead.  Cathlene Goya and Megan Yoshimoto  improved to 9-4 as a No. 1 doubles tandem with an 8-5 victory over Leah Newell & Tina Aarsvold.

Lillian Do and Kelsey Trujillo improved to 8-4 in the No. 2 flight with an 8-6 victory over Cora Wigen and Valery Jorgensen, while Rachel Mizuno and Amber Craviotto made it a clean sweep with an 8-5 win at the No. 3 flight over Katherine Patton and Catherine Miolla. 

Pacific saw two singles matches go to tiebreakers in the second set.  Yoshimoto was challenged by Newell in the No. 2 flight but won 7-4 in the tiebreaker to triumph 7-5, 7-6.  Craviotto also went to a second set tiebreakerwith Miolla, but pulled through to win the No. 6 match 6-3, 7-6.

Goya defeated Wigen to score a 6-1, 6-0 win in the No. 1 match,  Mizuno was a 6-4, 6-4 winner over Aarsvold at No. 3, Trujillo picked up a 6-3, 6-0 victory over Allison McClure and Do was a 6-3, 6-4 winner over Patton.

Pacific concluded the 2012 season at 7-10, 6-6 NWC, while Pacific Lutheran is 1-16 overall, 0-11 in the NWC with a Saturday match at Willamette remaining on the schedule.
