Lutes Like Winning Feeling, Make it Two in a Row

FOREST GROVE, Ore. - Pacific Lutheran found out on Friday how good it feels to win in Northwest Conference women's tennis, so it decided to double that pleasure with another victory on Saturday.

One day after ending a 27-match conference winless streak, Pacific Lutheran made it two victories in a row with a 7-2 decision over the host Pacific Boxers. The Lutes are now 2-0 for the season while Pacific falls to 0-2.

For the second straight match the Lutes got off to a great start with a sweep of the doubles. PLU's top team of Samantha Lund and Payton McGriff went to a tiebreaker before finally beating Synclaire Waldron and Lily Do, 9-8 (7-2). No. 2 doubles was likewise close with PLU's Tina Aarsvold and Leah Newell topping Amber Craviotto and Becky Sheller, 8-6. The PLU doubles pair of Catherine Miolla and Valery Jorgensen had it easy at No. 3 with an 8-1 triumph over Kelsey Lack and Danielle Wicks.

Pacific Lutheran singles wins came at No. 2 from Newell over Do, 6-1, 4-6, 6-3, at No. 3 from Payton McGriff over Craviotto, 6-2, 6-3, at No. 4 from Aarsvold over Wicks 6-0, 6-0, and at No. 5 from Miolla over Lack, 6-1, 6-2.

PLU opens the home portion of its 2013 women's tennis schedule next weekend with home matches against George Fox at 3:30 p.m. Friday and Willamette at 1 p.m. on Saturday. Pacific Lutheran plays its home matches at Sprinker Tennis Center.
