PLU Topples College of Idaho in Women's Tennis

After eight consecutive Northwest Conference opponents to open the season, Pacific Lutheran women's tennis finally played a non-conference foe on Saturday and came away with an 8-1 decison over College of Idaho at Sprinker Tennis Center.

The Lutes improved their record to 6-3, while the loss kept the Coyotes winless in five matches.

PLU dropped only six games in sweeping the three doubles matches. The winners were Samantha Lund and Payton McGriff at No. 1, Leah Newell and Tina Aarsvold at No. 2 and Allison McClure and Katherine Patton at No. 3.

Shae Stults picked of C of I's only win when she topped Lund, 6-4, 7-6 (6), in the featured singles match.

The Lutes won the remainder of the singles matches, all in straight sets. Winners were Newell at No. 2, Aarsvold at No. 3, Catherine Miolla at No. 4, McClure at No. 5 and Patton at No. 6.

PLU next plays on March 23 when it faces Biola in La Mirada at the start of a four-match spring break trip to California.
