Lutes Fall to Loggers in Women's Tennis

TACOMA - Samantha Lund won her singles matches in a super tiebreaker, but that was the team's only victory as Pacific Lutheran lost an 8-1 Northwest Conference women's tennis decision to the host Puget Sound Loggers on Friday afternoon.

The Loggers are ranked 10th in the region and the Lutes are 11th.

Lund defeated Maddie Thiesse, 6-4, 1-6, 1-0 (10-5), at No. 1 singles to give the Lutes their lone point. Both Leah Newell at No. 2 and Allison McClure at No. 6 lost in a super tiebreaker, and the team of Newell and Aarvsold lost in a tiebreaker at No. 2 doubles.

PLU, 7-7 for the season and 5-4 in the conference, is back in action at 1 p.m. tomorrow when it hosts defending NWC champion Linfield at Sprinker Tennis Center. The Lutes beat the Wildcats, 5-4, in the first time these teams met back on Feb. 15.
