TACOMA – Pacific Lutheran began the 2014 spring season in top form, as the Lutes nearly swept College of Idaho in claiming an 8-1 victory over the Coyotes in nonconference women's tennis action Friday afternoon at Sprinker Recreation Center.
PLU improves to 1-0 on the season, while College of Idaho falls to 0-2. The Lutes host Lewis & Clark Saturday at 1 p.m. in the Northwest Conference opener.
Leah Newell claimed a tiebreaker win over Shae Stults in the No. 1 singles matchup, before Emily Tesnoholidek took down Samantha Lund in a super tiebreaker to give College of Idaho its lone win of the day. Megan Beyers, Allison McClure, Mariah Siemion and Emily Bower all claimed victories for the Lutes to give PLU a 5-1 advantage in singles play, and the Lutes swept the doubles matches to win their third straight match against College of Idaho.
