SALEM – Pacific Lutheran picked up victories in the second and third doubles matches and swept the final four singles matches to pull away to a 6-3 Northwest Conference women's tennis victory over Willamette Saturday at Courthouse Tennis Center.
With the win, PLU improves its perfect record to 4-0 overall and 3-0 in NWC play. Willamette falls to 1-4 overall and 0-4 in conference competition. The Lutes return home next week to host George Fox on March 8 at 1 p.m. at Sprinker Recreation Center.
Megan Beyers and Allison McClure won each of their singles matches by identical 6-1, 6-1 scores, while Mariah Siemion picked up a 6-1, 6-0 victory and Emily Bower claimed a 6-2, 6-0 win. That came after the quartet paired off to claim doubles victories over the Bearcats.
The team of Beyers and McClure took down the duo of Nebraska Lucas and Emily Guimont 8-2, and the duo of Siemion and Bower defeated Taylor Coggeshall and Alicia Sohn 8-3. All four Lutes remain undefeated in singles competition this season, while those two pairings are both now 3-0 this year.
