Lutes claim 5-4 comeback win over Bellevue

PARKLAND – Pacific Lutheran won the final three singles matches to claim a 5-4 comeback win over Bellevue in a nonconference women's tennis matchup on a sunny Wednesday afternoon at the PLU tennis courts.

The Lutes improve to a perfect 6-0 with the win, while Bellevue opens the season 0-1. They return to Northwest Conference play this weekend, heading to eastern Washington to take on Whitman on Friday at 4 p.m. before wrapping up the weekend in Spokane against Whitworth on Saturday at 11 a.m.

With the Lutes needing to win the final three singles matches of the day to avoid their first loss of the season, Allison McClure gutted out a 6-4, 4-6, 6-4 win over Nadean Al-Ali in the No. 4 singles matchup. Mariah Siemion (6-2, 6-4) and Emily Bower (6-2, 6-1) clinched the comeback win for PLU in the final two singles spots.

McClure and Siemion defeated Anna Lefebvre and Al-Ali in the second doubles match 8-4 after Bellevue picked up the win in the opening doubles contest. Megan Beyers and Bower teamed up to defeat Melanie Mortensen and Lorraine Eng in the final doubles match.
