PASADENA, Calif. – Spring break began with a tough matchup for Pacific Lutheran, as Caltech swept the Lutes 9-0 in a nonconference women's tennis match Saturday morning.
The Lutes' third consecutive defeat drops PLU's record to 6-3 overall, while Caltech improves to 6-4. PLU returns to the court Sunday at 12 p.m. against Whittier.
The Beavers opened the morning with three straight wins in the doubles round, with the third doubles team coming the closest for PLU as Megan Beyers and Emily Bower fell 8-4 to Sophia Chen and Valeria Pietrasz.
Caltech swept all six singles matches as well, with the closest coming at No. 5. Stephanie Baker gave PLU its lone set victory of the day, falling 6-1 to Chen in the opener before bouncing back with a 6-4 win. Chen took a 10-3 super tiebreaker to claim the win, and the Beavers closed out the 9-0 win.
