Lutes claim season's 10th win with 6-3 victory over Willamette

TACOMA – The Pacific Lutheran women's tennis team wrapped up a perfect weekend Saturday afternoon, defeating Willamette 6-3 in Northwest Conference action at Sprinker Recreation Center.

With the win, PLU improves to 10-4 overall and 6-2 in the Northwest Conference, while Willamette falls to 4-5 overall and 2-5 in the NWC. The Lutes return to action next weekend, when they will have a road match against cross-town rival Puget Sound on Friday at 4 p.m. before wrapping up the regular season home schedule on Saturday with a 1 p.m. match against Linfield.

Willamette opened the day with a narrow 9-7 doubles win, but the Lutes took the next two doubles matches 8-3 and 8-4 to take a 2-1 lead into the singles round. After the Bearcats won the first two singles matches, the Lutes won the next four to clinch the team win.

Megan Beyers gave PLU its first singles win with a 6-1, 6-0 victory over Alicia Sohn, and Allison McClure followed with a 6-2, 6-2 win against Nebraska Lucas. Mariah Siemion defeated Emily Guimont 6-3, 7-5, and Emily Bower wrapped up the afternoon with a 6-1, 6-0 win over Olina Cavedoni.
