WALLA WALLA – The Pacific Lutheran women's tennis team fell 9-0 to Whitman Saturday afternoon in Northwest Conference action at the Whitman Tennis Courts.
Pacific Lutheran falls to 2-5 overall and 1-5 in conference play, while Whitman improves to 8-2 overall and 6-0 in the NWC. The Lutes head to Spokane to take on Whitworth Sunday at 10 a.m.
Emily Beemsterboer gave the Lutes their best chance in the singles round, taking the second set in the number five singles match before falling 6-2, 3-6, 1-0 (10-4) to Allick Katrina. Stephanie Baker pushed Jenna Gilbert to extra points in the second set of the final singles match before falling 6-2, 7-5.
Whitman's Allie Wallin defeated Caroline Dreher 6-3, 6-3 at the top of the singles ladder, while Erin Bell took down Allison McClure 6-4, 6-2 in the second match. Alexandra Sigouin defeated Megan Beyers 6-0, 6-1, and Madison Webster rounded out the singles set with a 6-1, 6-1 win over Emily Bower.
The first doubles match was the most competitive of the day. Dreher and Samantha Lund pushed Courtney Lawless and Morgan Lawless to extra points before falling 9-7. Allick and Bell defeated McClure and Beyers 8-3 in the second match, and Webster and Hanna Greenberg teamed to defeat Bower and Beemsterboer 8-0.
