Lutes take 7-2 win against Occidental

LOS ANGELES – The Pacific Lutheran women's tennis team made it two straight wins on its spring break trip Tuesday evening as the Lutes defeated Occidental 7-2.

With the win, Pacific Lutheran improved to 4-6 overall this season. Occidental fell to 1-7. The Lutes wrap up their California trip Wednesday, when they will visit Biola at 3:30 p.m.

Pacific Lutheran opened the match by sweeping the doubles round. Caroline Dreher and Samantha Lund defeated Samantha Farrell and Keilani Bonis-Ericks in the first matchup, while Megan Beyers and Allison McClure defeated Sara Charney and Lauren Hutkin in the second match. Emily Bower and Emily Beemsterboer made it a clean sweep for the Lutes with a win over Lucy Malloch and Isabella Korfmann.

Occidental took the top two singles matches before PLU closed out the team win with victories in each of the next four singles matches. Farrell defeated Dreher at the top of the ladder, and Bonis-Ericks took down McClure in the second match.

Lund and Bower each saw their second sets go to extra points before picking up wins in the third and fifth matches, as Lund defeated Amber Gadsden and Bower defeated Hutkin. Beyers split the first two sets against Charney before winning the tiebreaker to take the fourth match, and Beemsterboer picked up the win in the sixth match against Korfmann.
