PLU Women's Tennis downs Bearcats for first win of 2015

TACOMA – Pacific Lutheran won two doubles matches and split the singles round against Willamette as the Lutes knocked off the Bearcats 5-4 for their first women's tennis win of the season Saturday afternoon at Sprinker Recreation Center.

The win improved Pacific Lutheran's season record to 1-4, matching their conference mark. Willamette fell to 0-6 overall and 0-3 in the NWC. The Lutes return to action Sunday, when they will host College of Idaho in a nonconference match at Sprinker at 10:30 a.m.

Willamette won the first doubles match, as Denise Poltavski and Mikaila Smith defeated Caroline Dreher and Ingrid Ericksen 8-3, but the Lutes picked up wins in the next two doubles matches. Allison McClure and Megan Beyers knocked off Emily Guimont and Alicia Sohn 8-5 in the second match, and Emily Bower and Emily Beemsterboer defeated Katie Adams and Ellen Rumley 8-3 in the final doubles match.

The Lutes picked up three wins in the middle of the singles ladder to clinch the team victory. Beyers took down Sohn 6-4, 6-1, while Bower knocked off Rumley 6-1, 6-1 and Beemsterboer defeated Guimont 6-2, 6-1. Poltavski won the first match 6-1, 6-3 over Dreher, while Smith defeated McClure 6-3, 6-2 and Adams ended the day with a 7-5, 6-3 win over Stephanie Baker.
