Lutes wrap weekend sweep with 7-2 win over College of Idaho

TACOMA – The Pacific Lutheran women's tennis team finished off a weekend sweep on Sunday as the Lutes defeated College of Idaho 7-2 Sunday in non-conference action at Sprinker Recreation Center.

Pacific Lutheran improved to 2-4 overall this season, while College of Idaho fell to 1-4. The Lutes head to eastern Washington next weekend to take on Whitman on Saturday and Whitworth on Sunday.

PLU won two of three doubles matches on Sunday, with Allison McClure and Megan Beyers starting the day off with an 8-4 win over Shae Stults and Allie Boyd. Erin Huffman and Megan Huffman defeated Caroline Dreher and Ingrid Ericksen 8-1 in the second match to even the score, but the Lutes captured the third match as Emily Bower and Emily Beemsterboer defeated Vanessa Almaraz and Laura Humphreys 8-3.

The Lutes finished one match short of a singles sweep, winning five of six singles matches against College of Idaho. Dreher picked up the first win of her PLU career in the number one singles match, defeating Stults 6-3, 6-2. McClure followed with a 6-2, 6-1 win over Megan Huffman. Humphreys picked up C of I's lone singles victory, defeating Stephanie Baker 6-3, 6-2 in the third match.

Beyers knocked off Boyd 6-1, 6-3, and Bower defeated Erin Huffman 6-0, 6-2. Beemsterboer finished the day for the Lutes with a 6-0, 6-0 win over Almaraz at number six on the singles ladder.
