Linfield defeats PLU 9-0 to end Lutes' four-match win streak

McMINNVILLE, Ore. – Pacific Lutheran's four-match win streak came to an end Saturday afternoon, as Linfield defeated PLU 9-0 in Northwest Conference women's tennis action at Linfield Tennis Center.

The loss drops PLU's season record to 6-7 overall and 2-7 in conference play. Linfield improves to 12-4 overall and 7-2 in the NWC. PLU returns to Tacoma for its final three matches, including its last road match of the season Sunday at Puget Sound at 10:30 a.m.

Emily Bower and Emily Beemsterboer each pushed their singles matches to extra points to give the Lutes their best chance for a win on the day. Bower fell to Marisa Kume 6-2, 7-6 (7-5) in the fourth singles match, while Beemsterboer fell to Kelly Watanabe 7-6 (6-2), 6-4 in the fifth singles match.

Ella Riddle defeated Caroline Dreher 6-1, 6-0 at the top of the ladder, while Kaila Nip took down Samantha Lund 6-0, 6-4. Marisa Doveri defeated Megan Beyers 6-1, 6-1 in the third singles match, and Gretchen Jernstedt closed out the singles round with a 6-1, 6-2 win over Stephanie Baker.

Riddle and Mackenzie Fraser defeated Dreher and Lund 8-3 in the first doubles match, while Basia Kopecka and Courtney Hammagren teamed to taked won Beyers and Ingrid Ericksen 8-1. Nip and Watanabe closed out the doubles sweep for Linfield with an 8-4 win over Bower and Beemsterboer.
