TACOMA – Pacific Lutheran picked up wins in the first doubles match and the sixth singles match, but George Fox won the rest as the Bruins defeated the Lutes 7-2 in Northwest Conference women's tennis action Sunday at Sprinker Recreation Center.
Caroline Dreher and Samantha Lund opened the day with an 8-3 doubles win over Sarah Tuemmler and Catrina Wong. Lilly Le capped the match with tight win that went to a tiebreaker, bouncing back from a 7-6 first-set loss to win the second set 6-3 before claiming a 10-8 tiebreaker to earn the win over Ali Diehl.
"The girls fought hard today but came up short," PLU head coach Lorrie Wood said. "Lilly had an impressive win in her singles match."
Megan Beyers and Karli Floyd fell 8-3 to Taylor Barnes and Ellen Pearson in the second doubles match, while Emily Bower and Emily Beemsterboer fell 8-3 to Andrea Motley and Ali Diehl.
Dreher fell to Tuemmler 6-4, 6-1 in the first singles match, while a close match between Lund and Kwong went to the Bruins 5-7, 6-6 after an injury withdrawal. Beyers fell to Barnes 6-2, 6-0 in the third singles match, while Bower fell to Pearson 6-4, 6-2 in the fourth slot and Beemsterboer fell 6-3, 6-0 to Motley in the fifth match.
PLU remains at home next weekend to host Puget Sound Saturday at 1 p.m. and College of Idaho Sunday at 10:30 a.m. at Sprinker Recreation Center.
