TUALATIN, Ore. – Pacific Lutheran saw the first half of the 2016 Northwest Conference season come to an end Sunday with the Lutes claiming an even 3-3 record after falling 9-0 to George Fox.
"The team fought hard today but came up short," PLU head coach Lorrie Wood said. "Caroline and Megan lost a very close match at number one doubles, and Emily Beemsterboer had a very close match at number four singles."
Caroline Dreher and Megan Beyers pushed Sarah Tuemmler and Kristen Mock to extra points in the first doubles match before falling 9-7. That was the closest match of the round, as Emily Bower and Emily Beemsterboer fell 8-2 to Taylor Barnes and Ellen Pearson and Lilly Le and Ingrid Ericksen fell 8-3 to Ali Diehl and Andrea Motley.
Beemsterboer had the closest match of the singles round, as she fell to Motley in the fourth match 6-4, 7-6 (7-5). Tuemmler defeated Dreher 6-1, 6-4 at number one singles, while Barnes defeated Beyers 6-1, 6-1 in the second match. Pearson defeated Bower 6-0, 6-0 in the third slot, while Dieh defeated Le 6-3, 6-1 at number five and Ilsa Teppo defeated Ericksen 6-0, 6-1 in the sixth match.
The Lutes return home next weekend to host Bellevue College in a Saturday exhibition match at Lakewood Racquet Club before ending the month with their annual spring break trip to California.
