McMINNVILLE, Ore. - Women's Tennis began their last weekend on the road with a 0-9 loss to Linfield College, dropping their overall conference record to 4-5.
The Lutes didn't see a lot of points coming in through doubles, as Linfield's two and
three spots took wins and only dropped two games. At one, Caroline Dreher and
Megan Beyers forced Linfield's Elsa Harris and Ella Riddle to extra points, eventually
losing 6-8.
"The team fought hard and played good tennis," PLU Head Coach Lorrie Wood said. "Though we came up short I am proud of the way they competed."
Linfield maintained their strength through singles. At one, Dreher found strength in
the second set, making Riddle come out even stronger with a 3-6, 5-7 win. Emily
Bower had another close match at three, taking Linfield's Marisa Doveri to three sets
before eventually losing 6-1, 3-6 (6-10).
"They made their opponents fight for every point," Wood said. "I look forward to
carrying on that same intensity as we play against Lewis and Clark tomorrow."
The Lutes face off against Lewis and Clark tomorrow afternoon before heading back
to finish out their season with two home matches next weekend. Lewis and Clark is
currently on top of the Northwest Conference standings with an undefeated record.
