Swartout Finishes 13th in Javelin at NCAA Championships

Waverly, IA – Following a protest in the men's javelin event, Pacific Lutheran thrower Erik Swartout finished 13th at the NCAA Division III Championships.

Swartout finished the meet with a long throw of 58.46 meters, 191-09.75.  Andrew Bloom of Whitworth won the national title with a throw of 63.60m (208.8).  The final javelin results were adjusted after the conclusion of the event following a protest because three of the 20 competitors in the field were ruled to have been using illegal spikes. The adjusted results placed Swartout 13th in the final results.

Swartout came into the weekend seeded seventh in the event, as his season-best throw of 63.13m (201-1) ranks him third on the PLU javelin leaderboard in the past 30 years.  This is the second year in a row for Swartout to make the NCAA Championships, he finished 20th in 2015.
