Lutes Start Day One Strong With 11 Top-Eight Finishes at NWC Championships

PORTLAND – At the conclusion of day one, the Lutes have 11 top-eight finishes at the Northwest Conference Track & Field Championships.  The teams return to the track tomorrow at noon for the final day competition.

Lucas Hatton started the scoring for the men's team placing second in the men's hammer posting a career best 48.97 meters.  Alex Fairhust finished either with a throw of 38.74m.  Erik Swartout placed third in the javelin with a throw of 60.43 meters.

Cassandra Ingram and Paige Runo tied for sixth in the women's high jump with a mark of 1.51 meters.  Dominique Jackson placed seventh in the women's hammer with a distance of 41.40 meters, and Machaela Graddy placed seventh in the javelin with a throw of 34.97m.

Brad Hodkinson finished third in the men's 10,000 with a time of 31:40.83, and Kyle Rapacz finished fourth in the men's 3,000 steeplechase with a time of 9:48.84. 

Richard Johnson led the Lutes in the men's preliminary races, qualifying first in the 100 with a time of 10.84 and third in the 200 with a time of 21.84.  Carson Ketter qualified third in the 100 with a time of 10.95 and fourth in the 200 with a time of 21.97.  Garrett Hittner qualified fourth in the 100 with a time of 11.06 and fifth in the 200 with a time of 22.7. 

Amanda Wilson advanced to Saturday's finals in the women's 200 with a time of 25.85 and the 400 with a time of 58.86.

Through 11 final events, PLU ranks fourth on the men's side with a total of 30 points, and eighth on the women's side with eight points.  The second day of competition is set to begin with the women's 4x100 relay at noon.
