TACOMA, Wash. - The Pacific Lutheran University women's tennis squad wrapped up its first weekend of Northwest Conference action on Sunday inside the Sprinker Recreation Center, falling 9-0 to Linfield College.
"The team battled hard again today, fighting for every point," said Head Coach Lorrie Wood. "We had very close and exciting matches at No. 1 doubles and No. 1 singles."
Caroline Dreher and Megan Beyers battled the West Region's second ranked doubles team at the No. 1 spot, falling 8-4 to the Wildcats' (3-0, 2-0 NWC) Ella Riddle and Elsa Harris. At No. 2 doubles, Emily Bower and Emily Beemsterboer battled before stumbling 8-2 to Riley Clayeux and Basia Kopecka who entered the match as the 10th-ranked doubles tandem in the West Region.
Dreher won the opening set 6-3 at No. 1 singles before dropping sets two and three by 6-2 and 10-7 scorelines to the West Region's 17th-ranked player in Elsa Harris. Bower fell, 6-2, 6-3 at No. 2 while Beemsterboer fell victim to a, 6-4, 6-1, scoreline.
The Lutes (0-3, 0-2 NWC) are back in action next weekend, facing crosstown rival University of Puget Sound on Saturday at 1 p.m.
"We have some specific things to work on in practice this week as we look forward to next weekend's match against UPS."
