TACOMA, Wash. - The Pacific Lutheran University women's tennis team was unable to keep pace with crosstown nemesis University of Puget Sound on Saturday afternoon, stumbling 8-1 at the UPS Tennis Pavilion.

"The team fought hard today," said Head Coach Lorrie Wood. "We had quite a few exciting close matches that stretched to tiebreakers. Emily Bower's was one of them, pulling out her marathon match in a super tiebreaker."

PLU's (0-4, 0-3 Northwest Conference) Emily Bower claimed the victory in No. 2 singles, outlasting the Loggers' (3-4, 1-3 NWC) Nicole Bouche, 7-6, 7-5, 10-8. Caroline Dreher battled hard at No. 1 singles before ultimately falling 7-6, 6-2, as did Ingrid Ericksen at No. 6, suffering a 7-6 (7-3), 6-1 setback.

In doubles, Dreher and Megan Beyers ended up on the wrong end of a tight 8-6 affair at No. 1 while Bower and Emily Beemsterboer dropped an 8-5 decision at the No. 2 position.

The Lutes get another crack at the Loggers next Saturday, hosting the intracity rivals at Sprinker Rec Center with action set to begin at 1 p.m.

"We look forward to the week of practice ahead of us to work hard and prepare for our next match against UPS next Saturday at Sprinker."
