TACOMA, Wash. - The Pacific Lutheran University women's tennis team won early and often on Sunday, downing Northwest Conference rival Willamette University 8-1 inside the Sprinker Recreation Center.

The Lutes (1-7, 1-6 NWC) started off the dual with a bang, earning a clean sweep of doubles. Caroline Dreher and Megan Beyers won their second match of the weekend, downing the Bearcats' (0-7, 0-8 NWC) Alexis Gjurasic and Mikaila Smith, 8-4, at the No. 1 position. Emily Bower and Emily Beemsterboer secured an 8-2 win at No. 2 doubles while Kristi Floyd and Lauren Kearney earned the 8-4 win at No. 3.

In singles, Bower was flawless, etching a, 6-0, 6-0, win at No. 2 while Beyers secured the, 6-4, 6-1, decision at No. 3 singles. Beemsterboer came away with the, 6-2, 6-1, victory at No. 4 while Kearney and Kylie Rademacher collected wins at the No. 5 and No. 6 positions. PLU nearly pulled off a sweep of all nine matches but Dreher was edged 10-7 in the third set at No. 1 singles.

"The team played well today," said Head Coach Lorrie Wood. "All their hard work at practice paid off on the scoreboard."

The Lutes remain home next weekend, hosting Whitworth University on Saturday at 1 p.m. inside the Sprinker Recreation Center.
