SALEM, Ore. -Caroline Dreher and Kristi Floyd each picked up wins in singles play but it wasn't enough on Saturday afternoon as the Pacific Lutheran University women's tennis squad fell 7-2 to Willamette University in a non-conference match at the Salem Tennis and Swim Club.

"The team battled hard today," said head coach Lorrie Wood. "A lot of the matches were really close and could have gone either way. We look forward to using what we learned today in tomorrow's match."

Dreher picked up her fifth singles victory on the young season, rolling, 6-2, 6-2, to Willamette's (1-0) Mikaila Smith at the No. 1 position. Kristi Floyd secured her first win of the season at No. 4, rallying from an early deficit to prevail, 1-6, 6-2, 6-0, over Sylvia Marr. Hannah Jeffries tested WU's Robin Pashek at No. 2 singles but eventually fell, 6-2, 2-6, 6-1.

In doubles, Floyd and Bayley Gouchanour provided stiff resistance to the Bearcats' No. 2 doubles team, getting edged 8-6.

The Lutes (1-2) return to the court tomorrow afternoon, facing Pacific University at 1 p.m.
