TACOMA, Wash. – The Pacific Lutheran University women's tennis team returned to the friendly confines of the Sprinker Recreation Center on Saturday, etching out a 5-4 victory over Northwest Conference rival Pacific University.
"The women played well today," said Head Coach Lorrie Wood. "They were really coachable and made needed adjustments. I'm proud of the way they just kept fighting to the end. It was a whole team effort."
The Lutes (2-7, 1-2 NWC) got things going early, winning two of the three doubles matches. Caroline Dreher and Hannah Jeffries defeated the Boxers' (2-3, 0-3 NWC) No. 1 tandem 8-4 while Kristi Floyd and Victoria Bolshakova prevailed in a 9-7 nailbiter at No. 3 doubles.
In singles, Dreher rallied to the, 5-7, 6-2, 6-1, win at No. 1 while Floyd also battled back at No. 3, emerging victorious by a, 1-6, 6-1, 6-3, scoreline. Bolshakova netted the Lutes' third singles win of the afternoon, collecting the, 6-2, 6-2, win at No. 5.
