LAKEWOOD, Wash. – Caroline Dreher finished the weekend undefeated in singles play but the Pacific Lutheran University women's tennis team fell short on Sunday against Willamette University, stumbling 7-2 in a Northwest Conference dual match at the Sprinker Recreation Center.

"Even though this is the same score as when we last played Willamette, the game scores were much closer this time," said Head Coach Lorrie Wood.

Dreher improved to 10-4 on the season with a, 6-3, 6-1, victory over the Bearcats' (4-4, 1-3 NWC) Mikaila Smith at No. 1 singles while Kylie Rademacher prevailed, 6-2, 6-4, at the No. 6 position. Victoria Bolshakova tested Willamette's Siena Ginsburg, holding an early edge before falling, 6-7 (5-7), 6-0, 1-0 (10-8).

All three doubles matches were decided by razor thin margins with the Lutes (2-8, 1=3 NWC) ending up on the wrong side of all three contests. Dreher and Hannah Jeffries were thwarted, 8-6, at No. 1 while Bayley Gochanour and Lauren Kearney fell victim to a 9-7 scoreline at No. 2. The Lutes' No. 3 team of Kristi Floyd and Bolshakova stumbled by an identical 9-7 scoreline.

"We're clearly getting better. The doubles were so close and could have gone either way as well as some of the singles. Caroline and Kylie competed well for our two singles points. Victoria battled hard and long and just barely came up short in a third set super tiebreaker."

PLU continues its homestand next Saturday, hosting Whitworth University at Sprinker in a dual match slated to begin at 3 p.m.

"We look forward to the week ahead to work on some things before our match next weekend."
