LAKEWOOD, Wash. – The Pacific Lutheran University rallied from an early deficit to come out on top on Saturday against Northwest Conference rival Whitworth University, emerging from the Sprinker Recreation Center with a 5-4 dual match victory.
"I'm so impressed by the fight and determination of this team," said Head Coach Lorrie Wood. "We faced a tough opponent today and refused to give up. Good things happen when we just keep fighting. Well done and it's a great day to be a Lute!"
Victoria Bolshakova and Kristi Floyd battled tooth and nail for the Lutes (3-8, 2-3 NWC) at No. 3 doubles, etching out a 9-8 (7-4) win while the Pirates (4-6, 3-3 NWC) took the other two doubles matches.
Caroline Dreher collected a, 6-4, 6-1, win at No. 1 singles while Bayley Gochanour rallied from an early deficit to claim the, 2-6, 6-2, 6-4, victory at No. 3. Floyd rebounded from a 1-6 setback by winning sets 6-4 and 6-2 to nab the win at No. 4 while Kylie Rademacher prevailed, 6-2, 6-2, at the NO. 6 spot.
The Lutes return to the courts next Saturday, closing out their homestand against Linfield College at the Sprinker Rec Center. Matches are slated to get underway at 1 p.m.
