ORANGE, Calif. – The Pacific Lutheran University women's tennis squad opened up its spring break tour of California on Monday, falling 9-0 to host Chapman University.
"Our first spring break match is always a challenge to adjust to playing outdoors," said Head Coach Lorrie Wood. "The women fought hard making needed adjustments for the sun and wind, but Chapman was just too tough for us today."
Kristi Floyd proved to be the biggest thorn in the Panthers' (4-6) side on Monday, pushing Vasilia Trofimova to a decisive third set before ultimately falling, 6-2,. 2-6, 1-0 (10-7) at No. 4 singles. Caroline Dreher suffered a, 6-0, 6-2, setback at the No. 1 position while Victoria Bolshakova ended up on the wrong side of a, 6-3, 6-2, affair at No. 6.
"Kristi was the last one off the court hanging in there battling to a third set tiebreaker."
In doubles, the Lutes' (3-10) No. 1 tandem of Dreher and Hannah Jeffries fell 8-0 while PLU's No. 2 and No. 3 doubles teams fell by identical 8-2 margins.

The Lutes are back on the courts tomorrow afternoon, facing Occidental College at 4 p.m.
