WALLA WALLA, Wash. – The Pacific Lutheran University women's tennis team discovered the hard way why Whitman College is one of the top team's in the nation, falling 9-0 to the Northwest Conference rivals on Saturday afternoon.
"The women battled well today," said Head Coach Lorrie Wood. "I'm proud of how hard they fought but Whitman was just too strong for us today."
The Blues (7-8, 5-1 NWC), ranked 32nd nationally, and sixth in the West Region, swept all three doubles matches. Kristi Floyd and Victoria Bolshakova tested the Blues at the No. 3 position before ultimately suffering an 8-2 setback.
In singles, Kylie Rademacher battled back and forth with Jenna Gilbert at No. 6 before ultimately coming up on the short end of a marathon, 4-6, 6-2, 1-0 (14-12) match. Caroline Dreher was bested, 6-1, 6-3, at No. 1 for the Lutes (3-13, 2-5 NWC) while Floyd fell, 6-2, 6-1, at No. 4.
"Kylie almost pulled out her match losing in a marathon super tie breaker. We look forward to our match tomorrow against Whitworth."
PLU remains in eastern Washington tomorrow, trekking to Spokane to face Whitworth University at 10 a.m.
