SPOKANE, Wash. – The Pacific Lutheran University women's tennis team fell by the slimmest of margins on Sunday afternoon with host and Northwest Conference rival Whitworth University slipping away with the 5-4 victory at the Scotford Tennis Center.

"The Lutes fought well today against a quality opponent," said assistant coach Josh Pinyerd. "No. 3 doubles made strong coaching adjustments played lights out. Caroline weather the storm of a quality opponent, and Kylie's athleticism was too much for her opponent to overcome. Kristi had a clutch three set win to pick up her teammates. This was a good match to build off with so may positives."

Kristi Floyd and Victoria Bolshakova came away with the 8-2 victory at the No. 3 doubles position while Bayley Gochanour and Lauren Kearney hung tough at No. 2 before ultimately ending on the wrong end of an 8-6 decision.

In singles, Caroline Dreher continued to roll, collecting the, 7-6 (7-3), 6-1, win over the Pirates' (7-8, 4-3 NWC) Erica Lee at No. 1. Kearney tallied her second win of the day at No. 5, rallying from an early deficit to edge Marissa Kirk, 3-6, 6-4, 1-0 (10-6).
