TACOMA, Wash. - The Pacific Lutheran University women's tennis team is heading to Oregon this weekend for its first major competition of the fall as they prepare for the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Northwest Regional in McMinnville, Oregon.
After losing a few key players to graduation, the Lutes are looking to take on the 2018-2019 season with vigor. With a roster that includes several strong returning players as well as some promising new faces, the Lutes plan to show their best at the tournament.
"We're taking a smaller team due to illnesses, academic demands, study abroad programs, or players in-season for other sports," said first-year Head Coach
Cheri Campbell, "But the players who are competing have been working hard on their games."
The Lutes finished last season eighth overall in the Northwest Conference standings with a 3-16 overall record and a 2-6 mark in league play, and are looking to continue to build and move up the conference ranks.
Throughout the preseason, the Lutes have put in a lot of work to ensure that they are well prepared for the year.
"
Hannah Jeffries (sophomore) and
Bayley Gochanour (sophomore) will be teaming up at #1 doubles and playing in the top two singles spots," said Campbell. "
Kristi Floyd (senior) and
Kylie Rademacher (junior) have embraced changes to their strokes and playing styles."
The Lutes head to Linfield College for the Northwest Regional which starts on Friday and runs through Monday.
